With tourism comprising millions of small travel and associated businesses, the travel industry can be seen as a ‘constellation industry’, and evaluating your supply chain can feel like an enormous task that is out of your control. Whilst accreditation is the logical path for an increasing number of travel businesses, and an easily identifiable marker of sustainable practices, formal accreditation may not be achievable for many businesses, certainly for a while to come yet.
Through pro-active and open discussions with suppliers, you can ensure that the businesses in your supply chain reflect the values of your business, and your clients. In asking the right questions and opening the dialogue between supplier and buyer, you can find out if you’re aligned, and start important conversations that can influence others.
In this session, led by Penny Rafferty, Executive Chair of Luxury Lodges of Australia and Head of Sustainability at Tourism Australia, with contributions from The Conscious Travel Foundation and The Long Run members, we will look at Tourism Australia’s Future of Demand research, the approach Luxury Lodges of Australia has taken with differentiating between legacy stories and mandatory requirements, and speak about the best practice questions to ask and why you should be asking them.
