Nikoi & Cempedak Islands

INDONESIA

Nikoi Island, Indonesia

Just 85km from Singapore, Nikoi is a private island property in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago. Spread across 17 hectares of beaches and virgin rainforest, it was created by a group of friends seeking an alternative to the region’s "flea-ridden shacks or opulently garish five-star hotels." Nikoi offers a range of large, open-air beach houses with one to three bedrooms, designed to catch the sea breeze and stay naturally cool without the need for air conditioning. With wide-open spaces, nature focused activities, and a flexible (somewhat child-led) kids' club, Nikoi has become a haven for adventurous families and kids. A certified Global Ecosphere Retreat (GER) Member of The Long Run, Nikoi is deeply committed to conservation, community, culture, and commerce. The island’s owners have also helped establish three foundations addressing pressing social and environmental issues, including The Island Foundation, which strengthens learning opportunities in small island and coastal communities. The focus on local sourcing, staff development, and low-impact design ensures guests experience the island with minimal environmental footprint.

Cempedak Island, Indonesia

Cempedak is a 15-hectare private island in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago, located just 2.5 hours from Singapore. Reserved for guests aged 15 and over, it offers a peaceful escape from city life, with white beaches, towering granite boulders, and untouched tropical rainforest. Dining is central to the experience, with daily changing menus crafted around fresh, locally sourced produce and seafood. Twenty expansive bamboo villas are nestled into the island’s beaches, hills, and boulders, showcasing a pioneering example of vernacular architecture designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. As a Fellow Member of The Long Run, Cempedak embraces a regenerative approach to tourism. The island is home to diverse wildlife, including the critically endangered pangolin, and supports broader conservation efforts such as the designation and management of a 12,100-square-kilometre Marine Protected Area and plastic waste reduction programmes. With a focus on natural materials, staff empowerment, and environmental stewardship, Cempedak invites guests to experience island living that is both thoughtful and extraordinary.
