Power A Project
Every year, membership fees and fundraising efforts allow our members to collectively fund two Community Impact Fund grants. Each year, far more projects apply than we can support through the fund alone. For larger travel businesses with the capacity to do more, why not build a charitable partnership with one of the projects that has been through our application process, but narrowly missed out on a grant?
Through our Power A Project scheme, we can connect you with projects that have been nominated by our members, reviewed by our team, and assessed by our Philanthropy Committee. Many of these initiatives are already receiving some support through our Member Directed Giving programme, and have applied for larger grants to grow their impact.
Each project has been reviewed against our Philanthropy Framework and impact rubric. They share key qualities: they are community-led, closely linked to tourism, and have clear potential to generate sustainable revenue.
Meet The Projects
Movimento ReFloresta
Brazil
Movimento ReFloresta is a regenerative tourism movement connecting young people across Brazil with the Amazon, through the Amazon. The threats to the survival of the Amazon are usually too distant from the realities of the people who do not live there. Funding would be used to support the immersive learning journeys, forging links between youth and Amazonian communities, building a network of young activists and strengthening the communities of the Amazon through community-based tourism.
Chandmana Erdene
Mongolia
Chandmana Erdene is a pioneering community-based tourism initiative empowering Mongolian women through training in guiding and sustainable accommodation management, grounded in years of lived experience. The project fosters responsible travel and community stewardship while addressing interconnected challenges such as unemployment, financial insecurity, gender inequality, and the uneven distribution of tourism benefits across Mongolia.
Atoll Marine Centre
Maldives
Atoll Marine Centre is a sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation facility based in the Maldives. The Centre leads marine conservation efforts by employing and empowering local Maldivians in the field of marine biology, with a focus on training and supporting female marine biologists. Funding supports the implementation of the Centre’s 5-year strategic plan, which includes expanding the local intern programme to nurture the next generation of Maldivian marine biologists, and investing in key capital projects such as installing new turtle tanks and solar panels to reduce electricity costs and carbon footprint. These improvements will allow more of the Centre’s donations to be directed toward expanding outreach and conservation initiatives.
Oceans Alive
Kenya
Oceans Alive is a community conservation enterprise, having established Kenya's first community-run marine sanctuary, a 30-hectare, no-take zone that has resulted in a 400% increase in fish biomass and significant ecosystem recovery since 2006. This self-financed eco-tourism model offers snorkelling, reef walks and glass-bottom boat tours, generating income for conservation and community. The project is seeking funding to expand ecotourism along the Kenyan coast.
Frente Insular de la Reserva Marina de Galápagos
Galapagos, Ecuador
Frente Insular is a volunteer group who work on projects to support the regeneration of the environment and its community in the Galapagos. It strengthens social and environmental responsibility in the Galapagos by engaging kids, teenagers, and adults through its hands-on programme. Funding would help them grow their educational workshops, beach cleanups, science events, and fund the broadcast of a weekly radio show with environmental advocacy. This community-driven project exists to build a culture of environmental stewardship, empowering the community to protect their fragile ecosystem.
