Founded by passionate Ecuadorians Reyna Oleas and Roberto Plaza, former naturalist guides with backgrounds in biology, ecology and sustainable resource management, this purposeful property emerged from their life's devotion to conservation.

The minimalist villas, built primarily from volcanic lava stone and bamboo, feature environmentally-friendly refillable amenities and exceptional attention to detail. Bridging science and hospitality, since 2019, the property has hosted scientists supporting research on the giant tortoises that freely roam the grounds. Beyond luxury accommodation, Montemar actively supports the local community, earning multiple recognitions including being finalists for the Green Awards of Latin America from among 3,000 projects.
