OUR 2021 CARBON REPORT

INDEPENDENT CARBON CONSULTANCY, ECOLLECTIVE, ARE A TEAM OF SELF-CONFESSED CARBON GEEKS COMMITTED TO HELPING BUSINESSES FIGHT THE CLIMATE CRISIS. THEY WANT NET ZERO BUSINESSES TO BE THE NORM AND ARE WORKING TO DO THIS BY MAKING CARBON MEASUREMENT SIMPLE AND CARBON REDUCTION ACTUALLY ACHIEVABLE.

WORKING WITH ECOLLECTIVE, WE ARE THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE PUBLISHED OUR 2021 CARBON REPORT.

A view of a lake fringed with pine forests, against the backdrop of a mountain ridge.

ecollective measured the entire carbon footprint of our business for 2021. As with all carbon calculations, it’s not 100% perfect, but the framework we used is currently one of the most thorough and most accurate methods in the industry. It follows the GHG Protocol and is in line with the Science Based Targets Initiative.

Working with carbon consultancy ecollective to measure the carbon footprint of our entire business in 2021, we have collated it into an easy-to-read report that we hope helps you understand our emissions and plans for the future.

The Conscious Travel Foundation was born to unite purpose-led businesses striving to make a difference. We believe that through collaboration our industry can have a positive impact on community, conservation and the climate.

In the blog below you can read more about why measuring carbon is important, how ecollective helped us and see our full report.

The climate crisis is causing devastating effects on our planet and the people and wildlife that inhabit it. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned us that to avoid more catastrophic damage, global warming must not exceed 1.5°C.

The world is currently on track for a 3+°C increase in global warming which will lead to irreversible harm to the planet. This is a global crisis that requires all of us to act immediately and we’re committed to doing our bit and supporting our members to do theirs too.

This graph is a great visual representation of the CO2 problem:

The most effective way to reduce our impact on the planet is to reduce our carbon footprint. But in order to do that, we needed to know what our carbon footprint is. So, we compiled data on our operations which include (but are not limited to) electricity, business travel, events and even our website.

We gave that data to the ecollective team who whipped it up into a nifty spreadsheet to give us our total carbon footprint score - 550kg of CO2e. This very low score is due to the nature of our business. Whilst this is great news for the planet, it does mean reducing our carbon emissions will be trickier, as there are fewer opportunities for reduction.

But we’re up for the challenge! ecollective analysed the breakdown of our score and highlighted areas where we can reduce our carbon, surfacing the easy, quick-wins.

Our focus now is on reduction and supporting our members to reduce their carbon, too. ecollective gave us a simple table of actions, listing the changes we can make and the impact each will have on our score. We’ve set an ambitious but achievable goal to reduce our carbon footprint by 7% next year, and each year after that until we reach Net Zero. Watch this space…

HOW CAN ECOLLECTIVE HELP OUR MEMBERS?

We’d love to encourage all our members to start taking steps to understand, measure and reduce their own carbon footprint, and ecollective are here to help. As a member of The Conscious Travel Foundation, you are entitled to a complimentary, one-hour conversation with the team at ecollective to help dispel some myths, get you thinking and make a start - trust us when we say it isn’t as scary as it sounds! We also have a special TCTF member package with ecollective if you’d like to start working with them to help calculate your footprint and provide some easily-to-follow guidance on how to improve. Get in touch with us on info@theconscioustravelfoundation.com for an introduction to the ecollective team and to get started (or keep improving) on your own carbon journey.

Thank you to Charlie and Lizzie at ecollective for all their brilliant help.
