The Slow Cyclist

UK

Pedaling at a pace that allows for chance encounters and unexpected discoveries, The Slow Cyclist curates small-group journeys on two wheels through lesser-known corners of Europe and Africa. Founded in 2014 by Oli Broom and guided by the belief that the best moments happen when we slow down, their ethos prioritises unhurried, immersive and human-centred travel that respects landscapes, cultures and communities. Trips are run with English-speaking hosts and local, expert guides, many of whom have worked with them for years. Accommodation is chosen for character and community ties, while meals are home-cooked and locally sourced. Bikes are stored in-country to reduce emissions, and group sizes are intentionally small to minimise impact. In Rwanda, they work with guides who are part of the post-genocide reconciliation generation, offering guests insight into a country rebuilding through community. Whether sharing bread with a Transylvanian farmer or cycling alongside Rwandan coffee growers, guests are encouraged to engage meaningfully, with craftspeople, farmers and storytellers whose knowledge shapes the route.
