Teardrop Hotels

SRI LANKA

Established in 2008, Teardrop Hotels has curated a collection of eight distinctive boutique properties that celebrate Sri Lanka's rich heritage through restoration and adaptive reuse. From the 18-bedroom Wallawwa near Colombo to restored planter bungalows in the UNESCO-listed Central Highlands, each property represents a commitment to architectural integrity and place-based storytelling. Their most ambitious projects include Fort Bazaar, a 17th-century merchant's house in Galle Fort that underwent a nine-year restoration, and Goatfell, completed without felling a single tree. As stewards of Sri Lanka's built heritage, Teardrop preserves Dutch arches, repurposes roof rafters, and uncovers lush gardens while integrating contemporary comforts. Their Travelife Gold-certified programme supports on-site vegetable gardens, sourcing from local fishermen, and the elimination of single-use plastics. Through their Teardrop CARE Foundation, they advance women's economic empowerment, upgrade schools, deliver environmental education through Eco Warriors, and provide vocational training with The Tea Leaf Trust.
