A Mediterranean-inspired beach club and boutique hotel on Tierra Bomba island, just 20 minutes from Cartagena, Blue Apple Beach is Colombia's first certified B-Corp accommodation. Founded by Portia Hart, who combined her experience from the Côte d'Azur with Caribbean heritage, the property operates on solar power with thorough zero-waste systems throughout. Their Green Apple Foundation has created a circular economy that pays local collectors for each kilo of recycled glass, diverting waste from landfills while generating income for island residents. Committed to island regeneration, Blue Apple allocates guest contributions and 2.3% of annual revenue to the community-led Bocachica Fund and restoration projects for endangered Tropical Dry Forest and mangrove ecosystems. As a living wage employer, they also prioritise local suppliers and create promotion pathways for staff instead of hiring foreign managers.
