Åmot
Norway
In the far reaches of Western Norway, where waterfalls spill through mossy forests and sheep graze on open hillsides, lies Åmot — a family-owned estate in Sunnfjord, lovingly restored across two decades by Steinar Garmann Sørli and Yngve Brakstad. Built in 1885 by Steinar’s great-grandfather, Åmot has been shaped by five generations of care and now welcomes guests for exclusive-use stays that feel less like a hotel, and more like a homecoming.
The journey here leads through quiet fjords to a valley where time slows down — and where every experience is rooted in intention. Åmot is not just a place to stay, but a place with purpose: a setting for travellers who wish to participate, learn, and contribute to the living story of rural development in the Norwegian fjords.
Led by General Manager Kesia Jensen, Åmot’s daily operations are carried forward by a dedicated local team who bring both skill and soul to their work. From the chef who forages wild herbs by the river to the warm hosts who greet each guest by name, they share a deep love for their land and way of life — and it shows in every detail.
As a certified Eco-Lighthouse property and part of the Fjord Coast UNESCO Regional- and Geopark, Åmot plays an active role in protecting and sharing its natural and cultural heritage — not just as stewards, but as storytellers.
At Åmot, hospitality is a way of life — one passed down from Steinar’s aunt, who once met guests at the gate with open arms. That spirit remains: Åmot still greets you like an embrace. With intention. With purpose. With warmth.
